Fuel pumps in tuned cars – what do we need to know about them?
Fuel Pump Function The fuel pump ensures that there is always enough gasoline for combustion. It is located in or near the fuel tank and pumps the correct amount at the proper pressure through the fuel lines to the engine. The external fuel pump delivers proportionally more fuel, as more is needed when power increases. It also creates a cooling effect by being flushed with gasoline. Mechanical and Electric Fuel Pumps Older, low-power engines typically have a mechanical diaphragm fuel pump that transports fuel from the tank to the carburetor and is driven by the camshaft. However, these pumps are not suitable for higher-power engines as they do not meet the requirements for a constant fuel supply. Newer fuel pumps are electronic and perfectly designed for newer fuel injection systems. These pumps deliver gasoline at appropriate pressure to the injectors, which inject it directly into the combustion chamber in the case of direct injection, or only into the intake manifold in the case of manifold injection. With direct injection, a high-pressure pump is usually still required to compress the fuel and direct it from there to the high-pressure injection valves. Electric fuel pumps are designed to deliver more fuel than necessary to maintain the required pressure at all times. The excess amount is returned to the tank. This prevents fuel from building up in the engine and causing overheating. You run into real problems when the pump doesn't deliver enough fuel. What happens if your fuel pump fails? Whether your engine is tuned or not, a broken fuel pump is a risk to it and your safety. The engine will no longer receive enough fuel, and you may experience misfires, loss of power, sputtering, or even stalling. Poor starting can also be due to a defective fuel pump. If you notice these symptoms, it's time for a new pump, as your car is now unpredictable and could break down at any time. Some of the most common causes of broken fuel pumps include defective contacts, relays, wires, seals, and fuses. Even with powerful engines, especially when cornering, there can be big problems if the pump does not provide the necessary power. That's why you need a high-performance pump when tuning. Thirsty Engine - Why Upgrade the Fuel Pump? When you start to increase your engine's power, for example through chip tuning, a new sports camshaft, an optimized intake tract, a more powerful turbocharger, or an upgrade of the injection valves, at some point upgrading the fuel pump or adding a second pump makes sense. In any case, you need to ensure that your engine gets more fuel faster for the extra power. This increased delivery is more important than pressure, as most (smaller) series pumps also have sufficient pressure. In this case, a modification of the standard pump is often sufficient. What are the advantages of tuning the fuel pump? Your modified engine usually needs more fuel than a standard engine. Without enough fuel, you risk not only a drop in performance due to fuel pressure drop but also significant engine damage. High-Pressure and Low-Pressure Pumps. Depending on the installed system, you need a low-pressure pump and/or a high-pressure pump. For a 2.5L TFSI, for example, you need the low-pressure pump located in the tank and the high-pressure pump on the engine, which is supplied by the low-pressure pump. For extreme power increases from 400 PS (294 kW) upwards, you need to upgrade both pump systems so that your engine doesn't run lean. We have complete kits in our online shop that control the pump based on pressure, so your racing pump always delivers the right amount of fuel. Which pump is right for you? Which pump is right for you depends on your car, the installed tuning parts, and your needs. That's why we are happy to advise you in finding the optimal fuel supply. Simply contact us.

What is a sports exhaust and how does it help your tuning project?
A sports muffler is one that offers the least possible resistance to exhaust gases. In motorsport and tuning, sports mufflers do an excellent job of improving gas flow in the exhaust system. In factory car exhaust systems, exhaust gases encounter restrictions and silencers that create an obstruction and impede flow. The design of sports mufflers allows gases to exit the combustion chamber as quickly as possible, resulting in increased power and torque. The mufflers from RM Motors have several layers of sound-absorbing materials - the perforated tube is wrapped with a stainless steel mesh that separates the stainless steel wool from the gas flow chamber (in cheaper silencers, you often see "wires" in the passage). Another layer is refractory steel wool, which further reduces the energy of the gases, thus eliminating the metallic hum known from cheap silencers. An outer stainless steel casing, made of acid-resistant 304 steel, protects the silencer from external damage and rust. The type of exhaust also influences the sound - we offer both oval and round solutions. RM Motors sports mufflers are hand-welded in an argon chamber, which guarantees an excellent design - extremely precise and colorful welds give a distinctive look to our products. RM Motors sports mufflers are a professional product at an affordable price, available in round and oval versions with different inlet and outlet sizes, as well as different silencer box sizes. Construction of sports mufflers. RM Motors silencers are among the most modern designs available on the market. Made of 100% 304 grade stainless steel, they guarantee an incredible look and durability, features that every car enthusiast will appreciate. The internal construction is comparable to leaders in the global industry, consisting of several layers: a perforated stainless steel tube, a stainless steel mesh to prevent burning of the muffler material and stainless wool from entering the gas flow area of the silencer. RM Motors silencers are finished with a polish, ensuring excellent gas passage, maintaining the distinctive sound of the powertrain. It is worth mentioning that these are solutions that will withstand even the harshest operating conditions. In addition, they are characterized by high performance and durability. The muffler can be used as both a mid and a rear muffler. The distance between the outlets is designed to allow parallel use of 2 flanges or a V-band, which makes it much easier to use as a mid muffler. Leaving both outlets in stainless steel or equipping them with additional tips makes it an excellent choice for the rear part of the system as well. RM Motors Sports Exhaust Systems RM Motors is a manufacturer of sports exhaust systems; its range includes universal and specialized solutions. Universal options are characterized by a wide range of choices, with box sizes ranging from 250 to 550 mm, and inlet and outlet diameters from 50 mm to 89 mm. A very important element is the size of the box and its length, chosen to ensure collision-free installation. Also available is a pass-through design silencer, sound-insulated with stainless steel wool and glass mat, resistant to temperatures of almost 800 degrees Celsius. It is important that the glass mat is made of full fiber - not using remnants. This makes the sound insulation of a very high standard, despite the lack of restrictions on exhaust flow. RM Motors' solutions, thanks to robotic welding processes, are highly repeatable and at the same time effective items, for which a hand-finished production process is responsible. The applied pressed bottoms, particularly resistant to cracking, guarantee trouble-free use and long-term satisfaction. RM Motors also offers specialized systems for specific car models; these are solutions that guarantee a perfect fit and trouble-free installation, and the quality is world-class. RM also has an assortment of downpipes with catalytic converters, as well as the catalytic converters themselves, which meet Euro 2, 3, 4, and 5 standards, with capacities: 100 cpsi, 200 cpsi, and 500 cpsi. Exhaust System Tuning, Sports Exhaust Systems The exhaust system is of great importance for the operation of the power unit, and its replacement and tuning allow you to see the effects of increased power and improved acoustic aspects. Efficient and well-chosen exhaust components allow for a significant improvement in engine performance. Complete Sports Exhaust Systems On our website, you will find ready-made solutions for many car brands that you can easily install. What are X-Pipes and Y-Pipes in performance exhaust systems?
X-pipe An X-pipe is an exhaust system component where the two separate pipes from the exhaust manifold cross, forming the shape of the letter "X". This crossing allows the exhaust gases from both channels to mix and balance. Advantages of an X-pipe: Improved power: An X-pipe improves exhaust gas flow and reduces back pressure, which can increase horsepower and torque, especially at higher RPMs. Better sound: An X-pipe gives the exhaust system a smoother and more harmonious sound. It creates a more even tone, which is popular among car enthusiasts. Gas balancing: The crossing of gases helps balance the pressure between the two channels, which can improve engine efficiency. Y-pipe A Y-pipe is an exhaust system component where the two separate pipes from the exhaust manifold merge into a single pipe, forming the shape of the letter "Y". This merging allows the exhaust gases to converge into one flow. Advantages of a Y-pipe: Improved low-end power: A Y-pipe typically offers better performance at low and mid-range RPMs as it creates more pressure in the system, which can increase torque. More aggressive sound: A Y-pipe gives the exhaust system a more aggressive and rougher sound. It is popular among those who prefer a sportier and more intense sound. Simpler construction: A Y-pipe has a simpler design compared to an X-pipe, making it easier to manufacture and install. X-pipe vs. Y-pipe: Characteristic X-pipe Y-pipe Performance Better high-RPM power Better low-RPM torque Sound Smoother and more harmonious More aggressive and rough Construction More complex design Simpler design Applications Suitable for sports and racing cars Suitable for daily drivers and light modifications Which one to choose? An X-pipe is more suitable for those seeking better high-RPM performance and a smoother, more harmonious sound. A Y-pipe is more suitable for those who prefer better low-RPM torque and a more aggressive sound. Both types of pipes offer different advantages and are popular among car enthusiasts, depending on their preferences and needs. You will find a wide variety of both types with us.
